Magpie Murders

Horowitz, Anthony
A book within a book, or outside it, or something. Two books, with various murders, or not murders, intertwined. Very good, I though.

The Long Way To A Small Angry Planet

Chambers, Becky
The adventures of the good ship Wayfarer and her crew. There is some funny stuff here, but every so often there is some seriously thought provoking stuff to think about. I am enjoying the series very much. This book is the first in a series of which the third book is a Hugo nominee for 2019.

Spinning Silver

Novik, Naomi
A Hugo nominee for 2019. Pretty good story, a version of Rumpelstiltskin. I got lost more than twice, 'cause sometimes I couldn't figure out which character was speaking for a few pages!

The Pillars Of The Earth

Follett, Ken
Learned a lot about church construction and the often rotten life of even the better-off in Medieval England. Very happy I do not have to life there!

Trail Of Lightning

Roanhorse, Rebecca
I really enjoyed this first book in The Sixth World series. Which I'm reading 'cause it was nominated for a Hugo. It takes place in the Navajo tribal area of the U.S. after an apocalyptic event has wiped out a great deal of the rest of the world. Very reminiscent of Tony Hillerman's mysteries, at least as far as the Native American stuff. There has been some controversy about her portrayal of Navajo culture and mythology, but it's a good story.

More of an oversize shack, really, it is approximately eight hundred feet across and half as deep...--pg 153 So it's almost nearly three football fields long and it's an oversize shack?

Revenant Gun

Lee, Yoon Ha
Book three. I think it is more accessible than the previous two books, certainly the first! A bit more humor it has, too.

"It's different from the dramas," Hemiola said dolefully. "At least then the music tells you when the bad guys are about to sneak up on you."

"In the dramas, we'd be the bad guys," 1491625 pointed out.

"Not helping,"Cheris said. --pg.328

Ninefox Gambit

Lee, Yoon Ha
I really did not enjoy reading this book until the second half or so. And it really is a "...fun if high-body-count story involving a long game of cat-and-mouse between two very different personalities. "(Yoon Ha Lee in The Book Smugglers blog Posted on June 16, 2016)
